Character Bio - Húrin

I am Húrin Thalion, also known as “the Steadfast” and “the Strong,”  and am the Lord of Dor-lómin.  I am the son of Galdor and Hareth, the older brother of Huor, married to Morwen Eledhwen, and the father of Túrin, Urwen, and Nienor.  I am one of the Edain men, with my blue eyes and blonde-grey hair, born in Hithlum and raised in the forest of Brethil.  My uncle Haldir raised my brother Huor and I in this forest, joining a company of scouts.  We suffered from an Orc ambush, separating us and causing us to head for another place to escape.  Huor and I were flown to the hidden city Gondolin by Eagles and Kind Turgon welcomed us because of our grandfather, Hador, being an Elf-friend.  When we returned to our people in Dor-lómin, we were sworn to oaths of secrecy.  My rule began when my father Galdor was slain by orcs invading the fortress.  With my wife Morwen, we had Túrin and Urwin (Lalaith), who to all of our despair, passed at only three years old.

The Battle of Unnumbered Tears was important to me as it was our attempt to defend our allies and to defeat Morgoth and his armies.  I remained strong throughout the battle, but we faced misfortune and were outnumbered.  Turgon was able to take our advice to retreat and protect the location of Gondolin, but Huor was slain in the attack.  I fought until the enemies’ bodies buried me and I was captured alive by the enemy.

After my capture, I was brought to Morgoth, who knew that I had been friends with Turgon and could know the secret location of Gondolin.I was tortured for the location, but to Morgoth’s dismay, was able to protect the secret and refused to reveal this information.  Because of this, Morgoth cursed me and my kin to a world of darkness and despair where evil follows them and those that they encounter.  Then, Morgoth chained me to a chair high on the slopes of Thangorodrim where I was forced to watch the tragedies that my family faces as the curse came upon Turin and my daughter born just after my capture, Nienor.  I had no choice but to watch these treacherous actions that they were faced with knowing the burden that I had left on them from this curse that was placed.
